As home schoolers, our kids are not required to have the same CORE courses that public schools require for graduation, but it is a good idea to follow that structure, especially if your student is college bound.  Most Louisiana public universities admit home schooled students based soley upon their ACT scores, but there are a few exceptions.  However, you should check with the office of admissions of any of the colleges that your student may like to attend as you choose their high school curriculum.  College admission requirements can change, so be sure to check that requirements have not changed each year. 

At worse case, your student may be required to take courses in their freshman year that other freshman have already completed in high school.  The most recent graduation requirements for La. public school students can be found on the web at  http://www.louisianabelieves.com/academics/graduation-requirements.

You can use the TOPS Core Curriculum as a guide as well.  Here is the link to the TOPS Core Curriculum: https://mylosfa.la.gov/students-parents/scholarships-grants/tops/ .  However, it is not necessary to take all the TOPS Core Curriculum courses to receive TOPS when homeschooling.  All that TOPS uses is the ACT/SAT scores of Approved Home Study students to award TOPS.
